For the 2016 FIRST robotics challenge, the goal was to shoot a dodgeball into a hoop about 8 feet up in the air. To accomplish this task, I led a team to create a manipulator that could intake and shoot balls.
Two 4" rubber tread flywheels were connected to 3:1 gear ratio Versaplanetary gearboxes that provide enough power for 10+ feet shots. A piston in the rear of the shooter provides the extra exit velocity needed to get the ball to a height of 8 feet. Two 90:1 gear ratio Versaplanetary gearboxes control the angle of the arm in order to provide a variable shot angle.
